Vikings Game

After the Oktoberfest festivities we stayed at Steve and Sandy's in Rochester. This worked out well since I won tickets to the Vikings Lions game at work on Friday afternoon. We got to the game around 11am and we went through the tailgating area looking for our friend Jeff. We didn't know what his Viking mobile looked like so we didn't end up getting to see him. After the game we also found out our friend Jachin was at the game as well.

The tickets that I won were in the first row on the 20 yard line. Awesome seats to see plays on our half of the field, crappy seats if you want to see the whole game.

Since we could only see part of the field and the game was pretty slow paced we started watching the Street Team and the Cheerleaders who were on the sidelines right in front of us. The Street Team was pretty funny. They are the guys who run out with the Vikings Flags after the team scores. Patrick and I decided they were just in it for the free food. At half time they got a little snack pack and they all sat down together and had a picnic. And most of the game they were snacking on cookies and power bars.

There was a crazy baseball like fight that broke out during the game and it was on our half of the field so we got a pretty good view of the fight.

We were also in the right end zone to see Adrian Peterson run 80 yards for a touchdown. It was kind of crazy because we couldn't see what happened on the other end of the field but all of sudden AP was running at lighting speed down the field into the end zone.

The Vikings beat the Lions 24-10 for their first win of the season. After going to the Packer game outside last week and the Vikings game this week at the Dome I have decided it is much more exciting to watch a game outdoors than in the Metrodome.

Oktoberfest

Patrick and I headed back to La Crosse on Saturday morning to go to the Oktoberfest festivities. We met Steve, Sandy and their families at the parade. After the parade we went down to the Fest Grounds and saw quite a few members of Patrick's family.

Green Bay Packer Football Game

Once we toured Lambeau on Thursday we really wanted to come back on Sunday for the game against the Buffalo Bills. After we packed up our stuff, I took down the tent while Patrick went in search of coffee. He finally found a decent coffee place in Ephraim.

We got to Green Bay around 11am and it was pretty crazy by then. Without tickets to the game, we paid $10 to park in someone's lawn. The area around Lambeau Field is very residential so the people in the area rent out their lawn for parking during football season. I even saw a gas station renting out spaces. Everyone was tailgating and wearing Green and Gold. There weren't many people selling tickets, but we saw someone selling right outside the stadium. We ended up giving him all the cash we had $196 for two tickets in Section 131, Row 41.

The fans were really into the game. Somehow they managed to get the crowd to get the wave to go around the stadium 4 or 5 times.

The Vikings were playing the Dolphins during the game, so they would give updates on the score during the game. Every time the fans saw the Vikings and Brett Favre were losing to the Dolphins cheering erupted through out the stadium. Fans were not shy about their dislike of Favre either.

There weren't many Buffalo Bills fans at the game, but I liked this guys hat: a cheese puff.

The Packers easily won the game 34-7 to start the season 2-0.

Door County, Wisconsin - Day Two

On Saturday we woke up in search of a good coffee shop. Again we had no luck. We ended up getting coffee, but Patrick's cappuccino was 75% foam and my chai tea was so hot I couldn't drink it for at least an hour after we bought it.

While at the winery, our host suggested that we go see the caves at Caves Point County Park. It was 20 miles from our campground, so on way we stopped at a couple roadside stores and of course we didn't come out empty handed. We bought some Wisconsin Cheese and Black Bean Salsa.

There was another winery just outside of Fish Creek that we wanted to check out, so after our adventures at Cave Point we headed there. We didn't end up doing the tasting, but we did walk through the small grape vineyard, apple orchard and pumpkin patch.

We hadn't eaten lunch, nor celebrated our birthday's so we decided to eat at the Wild Tomato. It was really good and we only had the bread basket and pepperoni pizza.

Before we started our campfire we wanted to do some more hiking. There were a few more trails we hadn't been so we checked those out before the sun set.

Door County, Wisconsin - Day One

After our tour of Lambeau Field we had a short window of time to get to our campground and set up our tent before it got dark. We ended up getting to Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek, Wisconsin with just enough time to set up our tent and start dinner. The next morning we went on a search for a coffee shop, but only found a little breakfast spot without fancy coffee. We ended up at the Hill Top Cafe which was good but pricey.

Next, we went on a ride through the country to see where the winery was and pick up some firewood we had seen along the road. The firewood was a good deal, but ended up being a disaster because there were a million little beetles living it. Which means we ended up with a million of those beetles in our trunk.

Once the bugs were cleaned up we went hiking on the trails in the park. It was a perfect weekend for hiking. The temperatures were in the 60's and the mosquitoes were gone for the season. One of the Door County Lighthouses is located in the park, so we were able to see that on our hike.

We had seen the Stone's Throw Winery on our way to the campground on Thursday night, so we decided to check it out on Friday afternoon. The wine was ok, but disappointing compared to the other wineries we had been to this summer.

Across the road from the winery was a pub that had a Friday Night Fish Fry. Patrick has been saying we needed to go to Fish Fry sometime, so this was a perfect opportunity.

On our way home from the fish fry we stopped at the Drive-In-Movie Theater for a couple movies. Eat, Pray, Love was the favorite for both of us; it made us both want to visit Italy sometime really soon.
