Kendra & Scott's Wedding

On Saturday we celebrated my cousin Kendra's wedding. The rain missed them and they were able to have the ceremony outdoors. A good number of family members were there to celebrate so it was fun to catch up with them. Some fun things they had were a candy bar and a photo booth.

Our Garden 2012 Edition

Last weekend was the only weekend in May that we had nothing planned, so I figured if we were going to have a garden this was my only chance. I went and got the plants and luckily was able to get everything in before the storm came in. This year in the vegetable garden, we just planted tomatoes and zucchini. I also did a pot of herbs (basil, cilantro, thyme, parsley, dill, oregano & rosemary). As usual I bought too many flowers again, but it wasn't as bad as it has been in the past. At least I bought the right amount of marigolds for the garden.

My haul from the garden store.

Some good finds from our backyard. The clematis is in full bloom and our compost bin actually made some compost for the garden.

Backpacking in Afton State Park

Last weekend Patrick, Rickard, Melissa and I headed to Afton State Park for a little backpacking trip. I was the only newbie on the trip as everyone else had been there before. We headed out on Saturday morning around 10am and started our adventure. We hiked about seven miles around the park before we got to our campsite around 3pm. The hike to campsite is really less than a mile, but we took the scenic route.

Patrick made us sandwiches for lunch, so we stopped along the way to eat them.

After we set up camp, we hung out for awhile before we made dinner. We had chicken tacos with all the fixings, while Rickard & Melissa had burgers. Rickard was pretty into the food, so he even brought a whole pan of brownies to eat.

The next morning Rickard went to town on making his gourmet breakfast of pancakes, sausage & eggs. Patrick and I had Boathouse Farm smoothies and some nuts and fruit since it seemed pretty hot for oatmeal. After packing up our site we hiked another five miles before we headed home.

Patrick & Rickard's Superior Hiking Trail Trip

A couple weekends ago Patrick and his friend Rickard spent a few days hiking the Superior Hiking Trail on the North Shore. This isn't my story to tell, but Patrick did take a ton of photos for me so here is a brief synopsis of the trip.

They left early Friday morning and arrived at their destination around 10am. They spent the whole day on Friday hiking over rocks and tree roots.

After 12 miles of hiking they arrived at their destination and set up their campsite. With the supplies on their back they set up their tents, made a fire and cooked their dinner. They also had to put their food and bathroom supplies in a tree to keep the bears away.

The next day they ate breakfast and packed up their bags and were back on the trail by 11am.

After 10 miles of hiking on the second day they arrived at a new destination and set up another campsite.

It was a cold night, Patrick left his water bottle outside and by morning the water had frozen.

After breakfast and packing they headed out on the trail again.

After a 5 mile hike, my brother Luke picked them up and they headed to Pizza Luce in Duluth for a late lunch. Patrick is pretty into this backpacking stuff, so I see a few trips in my future.
